The best horror film you've seen this year?

Doesn't have to be from this year, but it has to be a new experience for you.

Probably Don't Breathe (2016) for me... the year is still pretty early I guess but considering that there possibly won't be any more boards in 2 weeks ya know

I Am a Hero (2015)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3775202/reference

It's a well made very entertaining and funny (I actually laughed out loud a couple of times) Japanese zombie movie with very likeable characters, creepy looking zombies and great special effects (I don't like CG gore, but those were probably the best CG head explosions I've ever seen. The movie also has some cool practical gore). One of the best zombie movies I've seen in years. In fact it's probably the best zombie movie I've seen this decade so far. 8.5/10

Highly recommended! Get it watched.

Of what I've watched in the last 3 months or so, I've liked these the best:

THE INVITATION 10/10
DON'T BREATHE 8/10

Don't Breathe was going to be a 10 until it got silly near the end with the impregnation sub-plot.

reply

I thought the impregnation sub plot was hilarious! Rounded the movie out into a campy horror/dark comedy. Which gave it a bit more depth for rewatchability.

reply

Well I definitely found it to be comedic, but not in a good way. I have nothing against "dark", or black comedy, but to suddenly veer off into this territory when the third act of your film is about to begin seems a little late in the game, imo anyway.

reply

Fair enough!

reply

Agreed about Don't Breathe. Though I felt like the film was flawed before that in that they gave us a group of protagonists that it was impossible to root for and a sympathetic antagonist. It almost felt like, to me, that they introduced the impregnation subplot as a way of making the Blind Man seem evil, compared to the kids.

Fear Inc.
Autopsy of Jane Doe
Don't Breath
10 Cloverfield Lane
The Green Room
The Greasy Strangler

Looking forward to seeing Get Out this weekend!

So far in 2017, I've seen these movies for the first time.

Chopping Mall
Zombeavers
REC 4
All Cheerleaders Die

Chopping Mall was my favorite cause I love the 80s and it was just insane. Robots designed to police the mall get struck by lightning and start killing everybody.

According to Letterboxd I've watched 38 horror films so far this year. Out of those my top five would have to be (in no particular order):

The Babadook
Psycho
It Follows
The Witch
Suspiria

Watched so many other good horror films this year including Under the Shadow, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, My Bloody Valentine, City of the Living Dead, [REC], Hush, Godzilla (1954) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Pretty hard to choose just five.

To tell you the truth, I haven't seen anything I was gaga about.
