Why do people love Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn more than the original?

Because their brain tells them to like it more and clearly there's just no arguing with the brain. It likes what it likes.

It's just so over-the-top and arguably has even more innovated camera work. There's the amazing scene in which all the objects start laughing. There's the eyeball-swallowing gag.
I prefer the original because it takes itself at least a little bit seriously as a horror film, rather than being pure slapstick.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

Watching The Evil Dead was one of the best horror experiences of my life.

I honestly have no idea. The original is a horror masterpiece IMO. Great camera-work, creepy as hell story-line and fantastic setting with oodles of atmosphere. The sequel felt very watered down by comparison. I still like it, but it's easily my least favourite of the trilogy (Army of Darkness works very well as a straight-up comedy).

I agree with you Britney. ED2 was the first one I saw of the series, and is still my favorite. I love the first one, especially considering the budget Sam and the crew had to work with. But, I think part two is a much more polished film, and always fun to watch.

Honestly, I love the entire series. Ash is my hero, and if I ever grow up, I want to be him. lol
