this topic came about in another thread and it intrigued me, alot actually.
Many, many comedies have some romance as a subplot to the main plot. But are there movies without it.
Hangover just came to my mind, but i've only seen it once and don't really remember it well.
But i find this interesting. Are there any examples.

To answer this question we have to look closely at each structure used for comedies (this list is from a book):
1. Fish-out-of-water
2. Romantic Comedy
3. The Sports Comedy
4. The Crime/Caper Comedy
5. The Military Comedy
6. The Teen/Coming-of-Age comedy
7. The Ensemble Comedy
8. Farce
9. Black comedy
10. Satire, Parody and Mockumentary
The only one I'm 100% sure of is the romantic comedy. The main plot, by definition, is a love story. It nearly always has a love story between a female and a male, but lately there have been some made about the love between same sex couples. (eg Kissing Jessica Stein?)
Often romantic comedies include one or two romantic subplots in addition to the main one.
I'm not 100% sure of the other categories. I know some have a romantic subplot somewhere, but not sure it it's all of them.

A classic example of a dry, black (and white) comedy - in his autobiography I'm Oscar, But I'm Not a Grouch, Jack Klugman wrote that this is the film that made him decide he could be a successful comedic actor! Lee Jay Cobb said that this was the funniest film he'd been in since On the Waterfront! And Jake Warden was asked for years afterward to recreate his dynamite cigarette trick!

First one I thought about would be "The Bank Dick" (1940) and then an entire string of Comedies with romance/love subplots because they seem to have to add those in order for low level fankids to get the Comedy.
The remake of The Producers has a romantic subplot.
