It came to me in a dream (literally)
Have you ever had a crazy dream that you thought would make a good story?
I'll start with my most recent instance of this:
My (dream) friend and I were streaming a movie on his computer. The friend's dad reveals that he wrote it, and he becomes increasingly pissed that the filmmakers shortened the title, despite a contract stipulation. I argue that the shorter title is snappier and looks good on a marquee. The writer dad mentions a friend of his, with whom he co-wrote one of the Elm Streets.
He then goes off on me, grabs an axe, and entertains the idea of cutting off my "right" arm. "That's my left." He reveals his arm to be his left where his right should be. "I know." I make a run for it. He lives in some kind of apartment or condo. I race out into the corridor.
Making my way outside, I find a taxi/Lyft/Uber that's leaving. I chase it so that I can flee to safety. I leap onto the roof. Then I get stuck in a city traffic jam.
Then I woke up and wrote down as much as I could remember. This has the potential to be the next horror hit. Currently untitled.
Moral of the story: Never turn down a good/simple idea, and you never know where you'll find inspiration, or what dreams would make cool stories.
