Do screenplays for film have a special format for this:

One of my spec scripts deals with a police dept. a lot, the Atlanta Police Department. I figure I should just write it out as: APD

Is that the correct format for a screenplay, or is there some different, special rule for doing this? What do you all think?

For uniformity's sake, I figure I should omit periods out of most of my words like this, such as "ID" or "CSI" (short for crime scene investigator). What do you think?
