I just completed my first video in Avid
This is a test video to see what Avid Media Composer | First (the free version of the popular editor) can and can't do. There was a learning curve, but I did get the hang of it. Probably the most frustrating things to figure out were credits, fading in/out, and adding sound.
My advice: Add sound first before video. Otherwise, your video will be silent when you do decide to add sound. Or at least that was my case.
(I had to create the titles and credits in a different program, Blender 3D).
Avid Media Composer | First limits you to four video tracks and eight audio tracks at one time. HOWEVER, you have the option of downmixing everything to one track if you need to add more tracks, and then just delete the individual tracks once they're downmixed. Either that or upgrade to the paid version.
I tested video, sound, color (I chose a black and white color grade), titles/credits, and fading in/out.
My video has no special effects. However, all of the sound was created and/or added in post.... Almost all of the sound is my own creation, with the exception of footsteps from a Pro Sound Effects package offered free in conjunction with Avid Media Composer | First.
Despite the limitations noted above, this is a very robust editor and has most everything the paid version has.
