Make IMDB Irrelevant!!!! Plan to get back at them for taking our boards.

Here's an idea, don't delete your account.. instead create many more fake accounts and vote on every movie as a 1 out of 10 stars.. doesn't matter how great it is, how much you love the movie, how much it made you cry etc etc... VOTE 1 STAR FOR ALL MOVIES/SHOWS

What will happen?

Well, once the honest votes that we usually cast are gone, IMDB will ratings will start TANKING... doesn't matter how great the movie is, IMDB's ratings will show it looking like garbage making the site even more irrelevant since the reviews wont be accurately portrayed. More people will stop going to the site since the ratings are always wrong and Amazon will have no control over it unless they decide to remove ratings next.

Think about how much we could effect the ratings if all the board members decided to do this as a mass group. Especially on any Amazon produced film.

Overall it probably wouldn't do much, but seeing as how it's currently at #181 in the IMDb top 250, we could, fairly easily, get Manchester By the Sea out of the top 250 by voting it a 1. It doesn't deserve to be in the IMDb top 250, anyway (I gave it a 6 before dropping it to a 1 a few minutes ago). And, while it wouldn't put Amazon out of business, it would certainly not make them happy to see their little vanity project drop out of the top 250 before the Oscars and after such a short time on the list. This would allow us to see if the forum users are as "small" a group as they claim. Copy this post and paste it again and again if/when it gets removed.

No, thank you.

Issues of personal integrity aside, I don't want to burn this place down. I liked it here, it was hospitable to me, I'm sad to be asked to shuffle off; but I want to retain my nice memories and feel a little sadness to see it gone. I don't want to destroy it. Let's move along with our dignities intact, shall we?

Without even a taste of sour grapes I say: IMDb is doing a good job of making itself irrelevant by alienating a huge part of its user base. I shan't lie or rewrite history; I glance at this and that when I'm here. Click on some trivia or whatever. But most of my film and television resources in terms of episode guides, cast listing, and most importantly reviews? Are all sourced elsewhere. After the message boards are eradicated, I'll feel little need to use this website much.

I gotta agree with all the things you said here.
I really don't know what they're thinking, as these boards are at least 80% of the reason I visit this site. I don't want to burn it down, but I'm sad to see they're going in this direction, and probably gonna lose a huge part of their base.

I agree with you. I really love this site and I don't want to burn down the remaining content. I have used this site for nearly 17 years. And yes, the boards are a big part of what I come here for. I enjoy discussing movies and TV shows and I will miss that. I won't miss the nasty/negative trolls who come here just because they're bored. I will also miss the many posters that I've shared discussions and information with. It's a shame, but I'm not that surprised.

The trolls are why they are removing the message boards. No question about it.

I don't blame the trolls. I blame the people who fed the trolls and kept them coming back. If people would of just ignored them and their idiot behavior, they may have gotten bored and left.

But, no, 99% of the people here felt it was their duty to argue and fight with them and "show them the way", like it would ever do any good.

YOU WILL NEVER WIN AN AGRUMENT WITH A TROLL. Or shame them for feeling bad for their bad behavior. That's why they are called trolls.

I never understood why people didn't get that.

So, now we all lose.

It is a total bummer.

If you think they are closing the message boards because of trolls, you're delusional. The trolls are a scapegoat, and even if they didn't exist, I assure you they would still close the message boards down. IMDB/Amazon want to control the content on their site without any valid negative opinion on their content, because that HURTS SALES. It's an obvious greed tactic that so many other major websites are going to (by removing comment sections on articles, etc).

What I don't get is, why do they think silencing people's opinions will be a positive thing? I for one will now think twice before ordering something on Amazon because of this. I could care less about trolls on the message boards, as they were not the reason I looked at the message boards. I'm positive most other IMDB message board users also were uncaring about the trolls. We've all learned over the years that internet trolls are a fact of life that you will encounter, period. Only now IMDB has given the trolls a reason to trash their site. Good job IMDB.

Whatever for? Let IMDB do what it want, we have this message board now.
