I've not been having much success with contacting and receiving replies from people on the list to pick the next film and while I appreciate that some people cannot be here every day or week, I would like to get a head count of those on the list still interested in the film club (or those who would like to add their names to the list) so we can amend/alter the list.
Please add your name here if you are (still) interested.
Some could not make it at the time for their position on the list and others haven't got back to me so I thought it would be a good idea to do a roll call to update the list and see who was still interested.
I haven't seen some folks around the site at all, they might come back still (maybe it's due to it being summer?). For new people /if you're reading this, please post your interest :)/ maybe a thread in GD eventually?
I also think a vote on structure is in order, but I'll make another thread about that /not to hijack this one :)/
Might be an idea to have one thread that just contains the list, which gets amended when names are added/removed. People can add their names in another thread. Saves time looking for the latest list that way.
I was thinking of having the list in the OP, and we add/remove the names there, as it changes. But that's not an ideal thing, since it has to be just the one person doing it consistently.
Your way allows for different posters to amend it, which is better.
They might do (if they even check GD anymore, or the site for that matter). And the more structure might help as well. We were basically winging it, with nothing but a roster and a name. It'd be good to know when your turn is and when to post your pick. Not to mention when to check in for what that new pick is.
And, idk, the fewer people might have discouraged some posters as well. If we get more people to join, there'd be more actual discussing, since now, we're more or less just posting our thoughts and not commenting a lot on other members' ones (I'm guilty of that myself).
I'm going to give the "What did you watch..." thread as an example again. Virtually no trolling, great activity, lots of conversation. We're just too hidden here. And idk how welcoming that hiddenness is. (I know it was done for a reason, but still).
I say, we wait a few more day (a week), to see if someone else checks in; get organised, bang out a good structure and move the whole thing to GD.
There are two possibilities: We move everything in GD. Or we use GD as a jump off point for the movie boards and general organisation. There are more people in GD, so greater visibility for anything we do. But the trending shifting so quickly is going make it tougher for anyone not on GD to stumble upon the discussions short term.
The reason I want to have the discussion threads on the specific boards is because that way they stay there forever (or until MC exists). They're going to be easier to find, less likely to get lost in the shuffle of GD. And anyone randomly discovering them would have already seen the film and be eager to discuss it anyway (we might have a little message at the end of each OP inviting people to GD to sign up).
We might try the first way... first, build up a base and then move? If at all? Or we could have a short recruitment period and have another vote, if posters want to go to the specific boards or are cool with discussing on GD.
That trending history would be very good, for the whole site infact.
Whatever we do, those posts would fall back. Even the discussions. But the discussions are less likely to fall too back on the individual board. And my thinking is, we post the picks in the same thread... but then you have to look for it to post you pick or see what it was...
"Do not attempt to hack or crack MovieChat, including attempting to manipulate post count, attempting to bypass posting quotas, attempting to inject malicious code, attempting to manipulate the Trending section, or any other attempts to break, manipulate, or use the service in a way that was not intended by MovieChat"
I don't think bumping a thread counts, and I've seen people do it, and not get in trouble (as far as I can tell at least).
If I have not heard back from Sentient Meat (who was the last person I contacted yesterday) in the next couple of days, you will be next to pick the film as the list starts from the beginning again.
