Matrix 4 Story Speculation

What do you speculate the story of Matrix 4 will revolve around? And please, no rants from people who didn’t like the sequels (because these people obviously have no interest in another sequel anyway). Just thoughts from fans of the franchise on where you think the story is headed.

I think Revolutions did a pretty good job of tying everything up in the story, as it ends with a peace treaty between the human resistance and the machine mainframe. This gave the trilogy a sense of completeness, although I must admit the world of the matrix is an intriguing place that has the potential for a lot of great stories (much like Ghost In The Shell).

I always speculated that a sequel would involve something threatening this treaty, most likely in the form of rogue humans and programs that are unhappy with the conditions of this peace, and as we saw in Reloaded, there are a lot of rogue programs running around in the matrix. In that sense, I see the story possibly revolving around Zion and the machine mainframe cooperating to take on a new threat to this peace.

I find the confirmation that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Neo and Trinity to be a bit strange. I can understand Neo coming back, as he is portrayed as a Christ-like figure who is resurrected, but Trinity is dead, and I can only imagine her returning as part of a flashback or dream sequence (which would look strange considering the cast has aged 16 years since the last film).

My major fear is that they will spend too much time catering to people who aren’t fans of the series by re-explaining the world of the matrix. This is one reason why I like Reloaded better than the original. The Matrix spends most of its time explaining the concept and mechanics of the world, where Reloaded assumes the audience already knows this and just gets right into telling a story in the world they’ve already established.
