Womaniya: Anurag Kashyap to Direct a Women – Centric Movie
Anurag Kashyap has turned a new leaf by directing the romantic movie, Manmarziyan. The director, who rose to mainstream prominence by directing movies like Gangs of Wasseypur I and II, brought out a realistic portrayal of modern romance in the Abhishek Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu- Vicky Kaushal starrer.
The director is back to direct a new movie titled Womaniya. The name would be familiar to all, owing to the eponymous song in the movie Gangs of Wasseypur. The movie would be based on the lives of the ‘Revolver Dadis’, Chandro Tomar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar. Chandra Tomar and Prakashi Tomar belong to the Johri Village in Uttar Pradesh. Both octogenarians began their shooting careers post the age of 50. Both Chandra and Prakashi have received over 100 awards in the fields of shooting.
According to reports, Taapsee Pannu would be playing the role of Chandra Tomar. The second female lead has not been decided as of yet. For Taapsee, this would be another of her strong female lead character, ever since her breakout role in the Akshay Kumar starrer Baby. Earlier, Kriti Sanon was also roped in to play the role of one of the female leads in Womaniya. She has now backed out as she is occupied with other projects.
The leads in the movie would train for rifle shooting by CommonWealth Games 2018 bronze medalist Apurvi Chandela and Olympian Anjali Bhagwat as the film is based on real-life incidents. The film would be set in the hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh, so the actresses would have to get acquainted with the local dialect.
Further details of the movie are yet to emerge. The movie would be a gritty movie and would touch our hearts for sure, like every Anurag Kashyap movie. Womaniya’s initial release date is December 2018.
