You Know About Bigfoot, Now See Smallfoot
Everyone has heard of Bigfoot - a large, ape-like creature who may or may not exist. We’ve heard of the Bigfoot’s icy cousin Yeti too. There have been Bigfoot and Yeti sightings, books written on them, and even documentaries have been made on these creatures. But have you heard of Smallfoot? Smallfoot is an animated Hollywood film releasing soon which takes an interesting spin on these myths.
The new take is showing what the Yetis would think of the existence of a creature known as Smallfoot, which we know as humans. The film is based on a story by Sergio Pablos, who has worked on famous animated movies like Hercules (1997), Tarzan (1997), and Despicable Me (2010). It reimagines the mythical creature angle from the point of view of Yetis who live up in the mountains in isolation and tell scary stories about Smallfoot in the same way that humans tell Bigfoot stories. Smallfoot is completely different than the Yetis - they have hair only on the head, their skin is visible, and most importantly, they have feet way smaller than what the Yetis have, making them even more strange. The Smallfoot trailer shows us adult Yetis telling the Yeti children the story of Smallfoot around a campfire, and children getting scared as they learn more about this weird creature. The mothers try to reassure them by saying that Smallfoot isn’t real, just as one of the Yetis shows them a boot which makes them all scatter in fear. It’s a hilarious and fresh story from what we can see in the trailer.
The voice cast of Smallfoot is also not any less than stellar. Zendaya, known for her roles in Spiderman: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman, will be voicing Meechee. Channing Tatum, who has already done some voice acting with the role of Superman in The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, will be voicing Migo. Gina Rodriguez, who is known for playing the titular character in Jane the Virgin and has appeared in Annihilation, will also be in the movie voicing Kolka. Danny DeVito is known for playing frank the long-running comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but he’s also had many voice acting roles - including playing Phil in the iconic Hercules movie. The Late Late Show host James Corden, who most recently voiced the main character of Peter Rabbit in the movie of the same name is also voice-acting in Smallfoot. The basketball legend LeBron James (who also will be in the recently announced Space Jam 2) is also a part of Smallfoot.
While we don’t know the details of the plot yet beyond the fact that it will include a Yeti who is convinced that “humans” exist, it is definitely going to be a fun movie to watch both for children and the grown-ups.
