Gabriel over the White House Deux

Have just watched the movie on TCM and was deeply disturbed at its eerie prophecy. The insular, condescending view of the world have too much a resemblance to our contemporary newly-minted administration to watch as a 1930th parable. Apparently the movie was quite controversial in its own time and it was banned from screening at times. Its America First message and its implementation by imposing martial law and by bullying American allies is too close to our reality to ignore. I suspect that was the reason TCM broadcasted it, since it is very infrequently on their schedule. It reminds me of It Can't Happen Here, although the purported purpose of the president was to make America Great Again, and discarding democracy was only the means to it.
