What's supposed to be enjoyable about the Halloween films?

I've been trying to understand the craze for the Halloween franchise and have now seen 5 of them, but I just don't get what I'm supposed to like about these films. The whole concept is so damn boring!

Every film is just a bunch people standing around talking about how Michael Myers is supposedly an incredibly scary boogeyman that's "pure evil"... only for a quiet introvert in a mask to finally show up and spend way too long moseying after a small handful of characters I could not care less about.

There's absolutely nothing scary in any of these films, no cool gore effects, nothing fun or entertaining. Just one long snoozefest after the other where people over-hype the supposed danger of a lackluster villain.

(Season of the Witch that was kinda fun though, because it didn't feature Meyers)
