James Franco Stars as Tommy Wiseau in a Biopic
James Franco is a man of many talents. He is an actor, college instructor, filmmaker, screenwriter and musician. James Franco has starred in various acclaimed roles in movies like Spiderman, 127 Hours and Eat Pray Love.
Now the actor is back with a substantial role in a biopic which he has also produced and directed. Named, The Disaster Artist, the movie stars James Franco as the director Tommy Wiseau. Tommy Wiseau is the director who directed the cult movie, The Room. When the room was released, the movie was panned by critics and audiences. The movie is also amongst the worst movies of all times.
The movie also stars Dave Franco as Greg Sestero, the actor who portrays Mark in The Room. Other actors in the movie include Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Alison Brie, Jacki Weaver, Paul Scheer, Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson, June Diane Raphael, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Andrew Santino, Nathan Fielder, Sharon Stone, Melanie Griffith, Hannibal Buress, Bob Odenkirk, Bryan Cranston and Judd Apatow among others.
Even Tommy Wiseau, on who’s life experiences the movie is based, stars in a cameo in this movie. The film is actually based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s 2013 book by the same name. The Disaster Artist recounts the strange yet amusing story behind the making of Wiseau's bizarre masterpiece, and sheds light on the inner world of the weird enigma that he is.
James Franco won a Golden Globe award for the Best Actor – Musical or Comedy at the 75th Golden Globe Awards. The film was also nominated under the category – Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Franco was received a Screen Actor Guild Award nomination. The film was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards.
The 104-minute feature film is all set to release in India in the month of December.
