OT: Isabelle Adjani and Isabelle Huppert...

I'm curious - is there really major beef between these actresses? Like, on a Joan Crawford/Bette Davis-level? Perusing through sensationalized French headlines makes the relationship between them seem quite animus.

I think they are both fantastic. It's sad to say that Adjani has been nominated twice before and didn't win. For Huppert, Mr. Huppert, I'll be glad to hear she wins it on her first nomination.

Huppert has little chance of winning, though.

When they were both really young, they made a movie together (The Bronte Sisters).

Adjani was the bigger star back then (already an Oscar nominee at age 19), and she made life impossible for Huppert on set. One day Adjani pulled Huppert's hair and made her cry.

Years later, Huppert banned Adjani from appearing at certain festivals.

The two rarely mention each other, though Adjani recently complained that Huppert hogs all the roles.

The Césars love to pit Adjani and Huppert against each other whenever they can. Adjani beat her 3 times. Huppert never won against Adjani.

It would be the ultimate revenge for Huppert to win the Oscar, which is something Adjani could never do, and is very unlikely to do.

Thanks so much for the information. 

If those reports are true, then it's disappointing that Adjani mistreated Huppert to such a degree though hardly surprising given her reputation for being completely batsh_t. Maybe Huppert's talent made her insecure?

Both are colossal talents.

Lainey Gossip ran a story the other day about Huppert allegedly banning Adjani from presenting at the Cannes Film Festival the year she was President of the Jury. 

That article also said that Huppert wouldn't allow Gainsbourg to share the stage with her...

James Gray (who was on the Jury that she headed) reportedly called her a "fascist bitch." The most bitterly divided Cannes jury in history, I think.

There were definitely horror stories from the year Adjani was President, too!
