movie from the 1950s-1960s with a group of Asian villains led by a woman

If I remember correctly it was a color film. I don’t remember anything about the plot and probably was too young to understand it. All I remember is the good guys were white people and the bad guys were a group of around 3-5 Asian men led by a middle aged woman. If I remember correctly the entire movie all took place in a large city in America or somewhere else in the West. There was a large comedic fight at the end of the movie. At one point in the fight one of the Asian men went flying through the air and one of the white men caught him on an accent chair that he held on top of his head.

It is very difficult, but maybe your movie is something in style Sammo Hung or Samuel Hui movies? I think about "Mad Mission", but it is typical Asian movie, rather without white people.

reply

Are you sure that it was movie from the 1950s-1960s ?

I think about Joey Wang movies, but she was popular in 80's and 90's.

I'm not entirely sure it was from the 1950s-1960s but I remember it clearly having the "look" of being from that period. It was technicolor (unless it was actually black and white and I remembered wrongly) and I remember all the characters being dressed very formally in the way that movie characters always were back then. All the action and movement in the movie make it look like something from that period, especially the large comedic fight at the end of the movie that I referenced earlier. To add to what I said before about the Asian villains, I only remember the female leader being formally dressed. I remember the Asian men under her command being all dressed the same and rather plainly.

Maybe "Around the World in 80 Days" from 1956. In the film, there is a scene where th.e characters encounter a group of martial arts fighters in a Chinese village. While it may not fit all your description details, it does feature a comedic fight scene with white protagonists against Asian characters led by a woman.

reply

It couldn't be Around the World in 80 Days because the movie I'm looking for didn't really involve any travel. From what I remember it all took place in one city. It was either in America or somewhere else in the west. And the Asian characters were in the entire movie, not just in one part of it.

From what I remember the Asian characters were a relatively small group. It was the woman and around 3-5 men.

reply

And maybe "Karate Killers" (1967) or "The Wrecking Crew" (1968) ?

I think that it could be easy to find, but I don't any idea connected with direction of searching.

reply

It can't be either of those movies because they both have all or mostly Caucasian bad guys. From what I remember in the movie I'm looking for all of the bad guys were Asian. Perhaps I'm mistaken about the woman who was their leader. What I do remember for sure about her is she was middle aged and not attractive. She was kind of severe looking.

reply

I don't have too many idea, but maybe "Qing bao long hu men" (1985) ?

I was looked for here, but it will be tough to find. Perhaps somebody watched and will give you correct title.

reply

I can't find "Qing bao long hu men" on Youtube. There isn't even a trailer for it on Youtube. This probably isn't it. I watched the movie I'm looking for at least 30 years ago and it looked pretty old. It would have looked pretty recent if it was from 1985. "Qing bao long hu men" takes place in Hong Kong and if I remember correctly the movie I'm lookng for took place in an American city or somewhere else in the West and the Asian bad guys were the only Asians in the film. "Qing bao long hu men" has Richard Kiel, who was over 7 feet tall, and I don't remember there being anyone super tall in the movie I'm looking for.

My friend says that it sounds more like movie with Jackie Chan and he thinks about a scene where one person is thrown or falls off a balcony (or other place) and another person picks up the bed and tosses it so that the person who falls hits it, but we don't know a title of this movie. Perhaps it's something from 70's.

I searched different lists, but I didn't find nothing. Do you remember martial arts? It could be comedy & action movie or only crime & action ?

reply

The one thing I'm sure about the movie I'm looking for is that the comedic fight scene involved a large chair rather than a bed. I distinctly remember one of the bad guys going flying through the air and he landed sitting in a large cushioned chair that the white guy held on top of his head.

From what I remember there were no martial arts in the movie. I assume it was a Hollywood movie or made somewhere else in the West. If the movie is as old as I think it is then it was from before martial arts were commonly shown in Hollywood films.

reply

OK. I don't other idea. Maybe good trope are movies with Charlie Chan?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Chan

If you remember something else, perhaps it will be very helpful to find.

reply

OK. So summary :-) so the middle aged woman who led the bad guys was also Asian? And I assume by "Asian" you mean "East Asian", that is from China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, that part of the world, not Southern Asian or West Asian.
I will add that if this movie was really made in the 1950s-1960s it would be very unusual for an American movie to have so many East Asian characters. That should make it easier to find--unless in reality it WASN'T made in that period. (An exception would be movies about World War II or about the Korean War, but that doesn't seem to be what is being described here)
If there was a "big comedic fight" at the end, that suggests this was a comedy, yes?
Perhaps in fact it took place in an East Asian city, like Tokyo or Hong Kong, and the good guys were Westerners who were visiting the city. And an East Asian city might look a little behind the times to a Western viewer.
For example, the comedy "Revenge of the Pink Panther", one of the films in the "Pink Panther" series, is about a detective (Inspector Clouseau), and Western gangsters, and they all end up in Hong Kong at the end. There is a funny chase, but I don't think there is a funny fight scene at the end. (Although earlier in the film, Clouseau fights both his valet Cato (who is Chinese) and also a mysterious assassin named Mr. Chong)

reply

By Asian I mean East Asian. I think the middle aged woman was Asian but my memory of that could be wrong. From what I remember there weren't that many Asian characters. Just the woman and the 3-5 men under her command. I can't really remember anything that actually happened in the movie other than the fight scene at the end but based on that scene I would say it was a comedy. You may be right that it actually took place in an Asian rather than Western city. I have no memory of the race of any extras in the background who would have been the average residents of the city. My extremely vague memory tells me that the bad guys may have traveled to that city in order to get something. I think the Caucasians may have had something that the bad guys wanted or the bad guys were in the city looking for something.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Pink Panther movie. I've seen a couple of those movies and I don't remember this movie having any of the kind of super zany antics from Clouseau that are typical of the Pink Panther movies. I don't remember any of the white male characters in the movie being complete bumbling fools.

reply

Okay. And maybe "The Yakuza" (1974) ?
https://kino893.com/2018/06/11/review-the-yakuza-1974/

Other possibility is "Di yi lei xing wei xian"with Bruce Baron.

reply

Is it a chance that Nancy Kwan played in your movie?

Other possibility is Flatfoot in Hong Kong (original title: Piedone a Hong Kong and also known as Flatfoot Goes East and Le Cogneur) is a 1975 crime comedy film directed by Steno and starring Bud Spencer. It is the second film of the "Flatfoot" film series.

reply

None of these movies are it. I found both Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind and Flatfoot in Hong Kong in their entirety on Youtube and neither of them had the scene I described. From what I remember of the movie I'm looking for it was in English and Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind is in a different language. The main character in Flatfoot in Hong Kong is a big guy with a beard and I don't recall any of the Caucasians in the movie I'm looking for having a beard. I looked at the trailer for The Yakuza and it appears to be an action movie that's relatively serious. The movie I'm looking for seemed more comedic and I don't remember it having anyone fighting with swords.

By this point I've pretty much given up hope that you would be able to find it. I guess I just don't have enough details to provide good clues for finding the movie. It just seems too hard to find.

reply

Is it possible that Asian gang was Yakuza? Do you remember other important details?

My suggestions:

1) "Armed Response" (1986)
Private investigator Clay Roth and his partner Cory are hired by Tanaka, a Japanese crime boss to get a statue that he needs to avoid a war with the Chinese Tong. The exchange goes smoothly but Cory had other plans. In the end Clay got shot he left with statue while Cory got the money that they were carrying. Clay managed to get to his father, Burt, who is an ex-cop and his brothers, Jim and Tommy who are Army vets. Clay dies before he could tell them anything. Burt decides not to tell the police about the statue, cause he wants to find out what happened himself. Tanaka needing the statue and operating on (false) info from Cory declares war on the Roths.

2) Overkill (1987)
A Tokyo cop is sent to Los Angeles to help an LAPD detective break up a yakuza (Japanese organized crime syndicate) ring operating in the city.

3) Casino Royale (1967)- it has comedic fights, but other than you described.

reply

I don't remember any of the details about who the Asian bad guys were. On Youtube I looked at the trailer for Armed Response and skimmed through Overkill and it's clear neither of them are it. They both seem too serious and too new. I watched this movie over 30 years ago and it looked old to me back then. These 2 movies would have looked very recent to me if I saw them back then. I've been familiar with the original Casino Royale for a long time. I rewatched the trailer and some of the scenes and it clearly isn't it. The bad guys are Caucasian and it doesn't appear to have the specific scene I'm looking for.

reply

And maybe something in style "James Batman" (1966). Here is Phillipinian actor and there are comedic fights, but I don't recognise your scene.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphy

Perhaps It will be almost impossible to find, unfortunately.

reply

James Batman definitely isn't it. It wasn't a Batman movie and it didn't have any kind of superheroes in it.

reply

I am almost sure that it could be movie with Japanese or Filipino American actors, because Chinese or Vietnamese people played in typical Asian movies.

Maybe it is movie with Tura Satana - Japanese American actress, vedette, and exotic dancer. Satana appeared in the television shows Burke's Law (1964) and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964). Satana then starred as "Varla" in the 1965 film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!—a very aggressive and sexual female character for which she did all of her own stunts and fight scenes.

reply

It couldn't have been a movie with Tura Satana. Considering how old this movie was, Tura Satana would have been too young and sexy to play the middle aged Asian woman. Imagine a middle aged, severe-looking female Bond villain like Rosa Klebb or Irma Bunt but Asian.

My wild guesses are:

Peking Express (1951)
Kill a Dragon (1967)
Der Sarg bleibt heute zu (1967)
The Chairman (1969)

reply

I looked up all of those movies and none of them are it
