Please help me find the name of movie...

I saw the movie many years ago (20+)..it was a horror/thriller movie, but don't remember the title. There was a family, who lost in old castle, their old car was founded in the garden lake (old mercedes limousine...)... Their bodies were founded behind the secret door in fireplace in the castle...where was large room with other dead bodies...

This case was solved by some detective like Sherlock Holmes...but I am not sure.

Is there anybody who can tell me what movie it was? Many thanks...

Just throwing this out there, maybe will prod your memory. This can't be right but your description reminded me of "The Private Eyes" (1980) with Don Knotts as the Holmes character.

I can't say for sure but parts of your description sound like High Spirits with Peter O'toole who had also played Sherlock Holmes but in other movies. But I know it was a spooky comedy and I am pretty sure that there something like the Mercedes you mentioned getting stuck in a lake. Hope I'm right.
