Looking for Late 80's or Early 90's Black gangster film in the city

Any experts on these? It's probably something a lot less popular than New Jack City or Boyz in the hood.

I've only just found this NTK board , didnt know MC had one , with any traffic at least .

But going back to IMDB times , isnt it traditional to give more clues?
Or is that really all you can remember?

I can only remember two scenes so didn't think there was much point.

1.The criminal gang shoots up a hair salon, I think because it's affiliated with a rival. A kid around 12 is shown watching in shock, they turn their guns on him and the camera cuts.

2.The two street cops hunting the gang enter a building with a several flights of stairs. One goes up, the other goes down. Every time they climb/descend a flight of stairs they bang their truncheon against the rail to let the other know they're still alive. One is shot so the banging stops which alerts the other one.

Any help appreciated.

Is it Harlem Nights (1989), with Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Redd Foxx?

Don't think so m8, no comedy and I don't think any big stars.

Another thing I seem to remember was the two cops hunting them down got a fair bit of screen time, one was black one mixed race.
