Doris Day in "Julie"

Hi folks,
as far as I know this is the earliest movie which has a plot similar to (and advancing it by some 15 years, hahaha) "Airport", i.e. some passenger or crew member who has no experience whatsoever in steering a plane suddenly finds himself in an emergency situation when he or she has to fly and, eventually, safely land a plane.
Was this really the first time ever that such a situation was shown in a movie?
Further I'd like to have your opinions as to the point whether such a thing is feasible at all - I'm of course not an expert; but my feeling is that it COULD work, but only in case the plane is in continuous wireless contact with the ground (e.g. the "tower" of the nearest airport) so that some staff members can give the necessary step-by-step advices. Or, at least there should be some sort of a printed "handbook" available. If there's neither support from the ground nor anything available on board like a handbook, I'm sceptical whether anyone without practical experience in that field could just "guess" the right procedures to execute (the right buttons to press at the right moment, etc..) IN TIME to get the plane safely landed.
