Saw this late '70s early '80s on KTVU in San Francisco on Bob Wilkins' Creature Features, I think. Or on one of the similar horror/sci-fi late night movie shows.
Astronauts are somewhere far away-- maybe Neptune? Pluto? They are on a cold, desolate planet and encounter a sort of shimmering gate made of light and walk through it into a more temperate climate. There are probably some aliens.

shareGiven the timeframe you outlined - the late 70s - would suggest a film from the 1950s-up to what would've been the present.
If you take out astronauts and replace with scientists, who are wearing futuristic silver costumes, then:

I was probably 7 or 8 when I saw it, so it could well have been scientists. That screenshot doesn't ring a bell, but I'll hunt down the film and see if it's the one. Thanks!

Thanks for providing that link. I really don't know if this is it or not. I have such a tiny memory of the film, and one that may well be inaccurate due to my age at the time, and the ensuing 40+ years. In my memory, there are astronauts/scientists/something in a cave, maybe, and there is a shimmering silver portal that they step through and are in some kind of forest or jungle or verdant planet. For some reason in my memory it might be Neptune. All of this may be 100% inaccurate, or spot on. It's just a jumbled memory of a movie I saw late at night in about 1978 or so.

I'll check it out on Prime, but the images make me feel 99% sure this isn't the movie. The portal was a shimmery silver thing. I also seem to recall at one point a person putting his hand through and it came back frozen solid.
