Lady in danger, one-funnel steamship, thin moustache villain drops dead?
I saw parts of this B&W film, without sound, at my gym, on Easter Monday. I contacted the broadcaster, a community station (Channel 31, Melbourne), but it looks like the wrong DVD was used so they have no idea what it was.
The lead was a woman with wide spaced eyes and an expressive face, there was another woman, a beefy young man who kept sliding from friendly to menacing, and a second man, tall, thin, with a thin moustache. Part of the story takes place on a steamship with a single funnel. At the end the woman and the thin moustached villain are in a spacious house, they argue intensely, it looks like the villain is trying to convince the woman of something, but then he drops dead. She tries to get out but the doors are locked. Then someone breaks a window, and quite a lot of people come in.
I was impressed by the acting of the lead , and I'd love to see the whole film, with sound. It looks as if it might be 1940's or late 1930's. Any ideas?
